Michigan Catholic college posts, removes Planned Parenthood job opening

by CWN

The career and counseling services office of a Michigan Catholic college is publicizing a job opening at Planned Parenthood. Aquinas College’s career services office posted the position of registered nurse at Planned Parenthood on November 12; the phone number listed as a contact number is that of Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan.

Aquinas College’s career services office “aids students in identifying unique skills, abilities, interests, and values in order to establish productive career paths and goals.” Founded in 1922 by Dominican sisters, the Grand Rapids-based college has 2,159 students, 1,872 of whom are undergraduates.

In 2005, the college’s newsletter had urged readers to “check out the following job opportunity publications available in Career and Counseling Services … Planned Parenthood Centers of West Michigan, Vice President of Resource Development.”

Aquinas College in Grand Rapids is not associated with Aquinas College in Nashville or Thomas Aquinas College in California, both of which appear on the Cardinal Newman Society’s list of 21 faithful Catholic colleges.

Earlier this week a CWN story called attention to the posting of a job opening at Planned Parenthood, at the career-service office of Aquinas College in Michigan. We’re happy to report that when CWN readers contacted the school’s top administrators to protest, they quickly apologized, explained that the job was listed by a student intern with inadequate training, and removed the listing immediately. The moral of the story is that alert readers can make a difference! - Phil Lawler, 12/3

What Does America Think of Socialist Healthcare?

"Fr. Jenkins Will Probably Lose His Job": Nine More Bishops Make 42 against ND Scandal

Bishop Olmsted says Fr. Jenkins is disobedient to USCCB

Dear Fr. Jenkins,

I am saddened and heavy of heart about your decision to invite President Obama to speak at Notre Dame University and even to receive an honorary degree.

It is a public act of disobedience to the Bishops of the United States. Our USCCB June 2004 Statement "Catholics in Political Life" states: "The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions." No one could not know of the public stands and actions of the president on key issues opposed to the most vulnderable human beings.

John Paul II said, "Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights - for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture - is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with the maximum determination."

I pray that you come to see the grave mistake of your decision, and the way that it undercuts the Church's proclamation of the Gospel of Life in our day.

Diocese of Phoenix

University of Notre Dame: Fr. Jenkins, please reconsider!

In a March 25 letter to the President of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) has registered its vehement opposition at his decision to have our nation’s president speak at the commencement and receive a Doctor of Laws degree from the institution.

The following letter was sent to Fr. John Jenkins yesterday, Feast of the Annunciation and Incarnation of the Word.

Dear Fr. Jenkins,

It is with great perplexity and grief that I write to express my affliction at your decision to have our nation’s president speak at Notre Dame.

As you know, abortion is a sin that clamors for a Divine Nuremberg since it is a sin that only finds modern historical parallels in the atrocities committed by the cohorts of Communism and Nazism. Whether each and every pro-abortion individual understands this clearly or not in his conscience does not alter the calamitous reality of this fact. Thus, I am perplexed and appalled that a priest of Holy Mother Church and president of one of America’s most outstanding and emblematic Catholic universities would invite a manifestly pro-abortion president to give the commencement address and receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. This places me in the lamentable position of having to express my vehement opposition to this invitation made to the highest dignitary of our nation.

I pray and trust that you will reconsider this invitation that causes so much scandal to the faithful and to all who oppose the “culture of death.”

Sincerely yours,
Raymond E. Drake

Liberal "Catholic" professor says 'Impeach the Pope'

The Washington Post was all to eager to publish this rant by a "Catholic" professor Robert S. McElvaine of Millsaps College calling for the impeachment of the Pope. Outrageous! Maybe he needs a basic Catechism course to learn that the Pope is not a politician but the representative of Jesus Christ on earth.

French newspaper attacks Jesus, Pope - Catholics need to speak up!

You are urgently requested to protest a sacrilegious cartoon in the French newspaper Le Monde – because the cartoon depicts Our Lord handing out condoms from a boat to the excited masses.

The cartoon reads:

“The multiplication of the condoms followed the multiplication of the loaves.”

The cartoon targets the Pope too. He is depicted as a decrepit old man who says: “Anything goes?”

As Catholics, you and I cannot accept such an attack on Our Lord and the Papacy!

That’s why I ask you to please send a protest message via email to Le Monde at:

courrier-des-lecteurs@lemonde.fr

I’ve written a sample message that you may copy and send as yours. Please see it below. Or you can use it to help you in writing your own email message.

Whatever option you prefer, it’s vital that you send your message right away. While the issue is hot. Perhaps even within the next 15 minutes. The honor of Our Lord and the Papacy is precious and cannot be brushed aside.

But there’s more …

Le Monde also wrote an editorial against the Pope. They harshly criticized Benedict XVI for his statement on condom use during his recent trip to Cameroon.

All the Pope did was to reaffirm Church teaching about chastity and showed how condoms, instead of helping to save lives and restrict the spread of AIDS, actually contribute to spread the disease and cause more deaths.

Logic. Facts. Morals. Not what the secular libertine world wants to hear.

In response, an angry and bitter chorus of liberal anti-Catholic voices swept Europe. Le Monde is the tip of the ice-berg; the most violent expression of hatred against Catholic morality over the last week.

That’s why it is so important that you and I, united with Catholics across the world, raise a thundering protest against Le Monde – an expression of love, faith and loyalty to God, the Papacy and Catholic morality.

I once again urge you to please send a protest message via email to Le Monde at:

courrier-des-lecteurs@lemonde.fr

And feel free to use the sample message below, if that helps you to get yours done and sent in a timely fashion.

You and I cannot sit this one out on the sidelines.

For the love of God and the Catholic Church and morality, please send your message today, and consider forwarding this email to all the Catholics you know.

Sample message you may use:

To Le Monde:

As a Catholic, I was shocked and deeply hurt to learn that your newspaper published a sacrilegious cartoon showing Our Lord Jesus Christ handing out condoms from a boat to the excited masses. The cartoon reads: “The multiplication of the condoms followed the multiplication of the loaves.”
The cartoon targets the Pope too. He is depicted as a decrepit old man who says: “Anything goes?” I do not accept this warped and portrayal of Our Lord, the Pope and Catholic morality. In response, I demand that you apologize for the cartoon and pledge never to publish such offensive material again. With a heartfelt prayer for your conversion, and for the spiritual and material well being of France.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

Since today is the feast of Saint Joseph, this prayer seems most appropriate:

O thou, whom no one has ever yet invoked in vain, thou, whose power with Our Lord and Our Lady is so great, that it has been truly said, "In Heaven, Joseph commands rather than supplicates," tender father, intercede for me!

St. Joseph, be my advocate with thy Divine Son, Whose foster-father and faithful protector thou wert here below. Add to all thy glories, that of gaining the despaired of cause that I confide to thee. I believe, yes, I believe thou canst obtain my deliverance from the troubles that overwhelm me, and the desolation in which my soul is plunged. I have the firm hope that thou wilt neglect nothing in favor of the afflicted who invoke thee.

Humbly prostrate at thy feet, dear St. Joseph, I implore thee to have pity on my tears, cover me with the mantle of thy merciful protection and bless me.

Amen.

Liberal media upset that Bishop Martino refused to meet with Misericordia University officials

Bishop Martino refused to meet with officials from Misericordia University until they release proof of how the school teaches Catholic doctrine on moral issues (specifically regarding homosexuality), the Diocese of Scranton announced on Wednesday.

The liberal media is going nuts over this story. They just can't stomach any form of authority. Let's watch and see if the university complies with the good bishop's request.

Catholic USF welcomes pro-homosexual play

A pro-homosexual play scheduled to perform at Most Holy Redeemer parish (San Francisco, CA) was canceled by Archbishop George Niederauer. However, the performance of the play was immediately welcomed at Presentation Theater of the (Catholic) University of San Francisco. The decision to welcome the play there is a slap against Catholic moral teaching.

The name of the play is "Be Still and Know" and it is based on a novel called "The God Box" by Alex Sanchez. Apparently, the reason why the show was canceled at Most Holy Redeemer is this: Catholic bloggers blew the whistle. The novel subverts Catholic teaching on an highly emotional level and is directed at school children.

If you see this play surface on any Catholic campus, please let me know.

Leave the Church Alone

Anti-Catholic Bill Stalls as Faithful React

Chanting “Leave the Church alone! Leave the Church alone!” 4,200 faithful Catholics gathered outside the State Capitol Building in Hartford, Connecticut, on Wednesday to oppose Senate Bill 1098. The proposed bill directly attacks the hierarchical nature of the Catholic Church and attempts to usurp the rightful authority of bishops and pastors in Connecticut.

For many, the driving force behind this latest assault against the freedom of the Church is clear: pro-homosexual politicians and dissident Catholic pressure groups are eager to silence the Church’s voice on moral values and remove every obstacle in the way of the homosexual movement’s advance. A printed statement distributed by TFP volunteers to every office in the Connecticut Legislative Office Building titled “Leave the Church Alone!” demonstrates how same-sex “marriage” advocates and wayward Catholics are uniting to harm the Catholic Church.

Good Start: Santa Clara Cancels V-Monologues, now it's time to cancel the pro-homosexual club

The trend is good. Every year, the number of Catholic universities which host the lewd "V-Monologues" play is dropping. I personally believe the reason for this reduction is this: more and more Catholic students and concerned parents are voicing their objection to it by organizing protests.

The latest university to cancel the play is Santa Clara University -- a Jesuit institution. Catholic News Agency has more on that here.

But all is not well. After a little research, I found Santa Clara Law has a pro-homosexual advocacy group on campus.

On the university's official web site, one finds a description of the club:

... The group also works to increase awareness of the concerns of bisexuals, gays, lesbians and transgender persons within the law school. We hold regular meetings, sponsor final exam review sessions, support activism, invite speakers to the law school, and represent Santa Clara University at national and local LGBT legal conferences, and career fairs. We also serve as a bridge between current law students, LGBT law school alumni, and SF Bay Area LGBT legal professionals.

Here is copy of what showed up on my screen regarding the pro-homosexual club.

Three cheers for Stonehill College

Controversy erupted at Stonehill College when a student began distributing free contraceptives, breaking the rules at that Catholic college. The contraceptives were removed from campus and Stonehill spokesman Martin McGovern affirmed Catholic teaching against contraceptives and stood his ground.

Three cheers for him and Stonehill College!!!

The Boston Globe reports:

"We're a private Catholic college," Martin McGovern, Stonehill's spokesman, said yesterday. "We make no secret of our religious affiliation, and our belief system is fairly straightforward. We don't expect everyone on campus to agree with our beliefs, but we would ask people, and students in particular, to respect them."

McGovern said the college's policy follows church teachings, which oppose use of artificial contraception. Most Catholic colleges do not distribute birth control on campus.

"This is not a shocking revelation," that the college does not permit condom distribution, he said.

* * *

As a reminder:

The Catholic Church has always taught that deliberate acts of contraception are always gravely sinful, which means that it is mortally sinful if done with full knowledge and deliberate consent (CCC 1857). This teaching cannot be changed and has been taught by the Church infallibly.

There is no way to deny the fact that the Church has always and everywhere condemned artificial contraception. Ignoring the mountain of evidence, some maintain that the Church considers the use of contraception a matter for each married couple to decide according to their "individual conscience." Yet, nothing could be further from the truth. The so-called "individual conscience" argument amounts to "individual disobedience."

Bishop Martino warns Misericordia University about dictatorship of relativism

Misericordia University, a Catholic institution, invited pro-homosexual activist Keith Boykin to speak on campus on February 17 -- for a second time. In response, Bishop Joseph F. Martino issued a firm public statement disapproving the event. The university ignored the fact and allowed the event to go on anyway.

Now, Bishop Martino has issued a second statement worthy of mention. In it his says:
As Catholics, we believe there is an objective, moral Truth – given to us by Jesus Christ. This Truth is timeless, and it cannot be altered by the shifting tides of popular culture.
The bishop concludes thus:
I also offer this postscript to those who criticize me for taking public stances that may not be popular or “politically correct,” or may not agree with their own personal notions of what “progressive” Catholic doctrine should be. My job as a Bishop is to promulgate the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church to all the faithful. I will continue to do so.

Catholic Colleges Host Impure Events – please protest

Catholics should protest three Jesuit Universities, where students started Lent by celebrating homosexuality, cross-dressing and pornography. I’ll spare you the graphic details, but according to press reports:
  1. Georgetown University funded a “Sex Positive Week,” hosting speakers who openly promote same-sex “marriage” and porn.

  2. Loyola University of Chicago showed pro-homosexual film Brother to Brother as part of a semester-long “Color of Queer Film Series.” Upcoming films include Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros which is about a 12 year-old boy who falls in “love” with a male police officer.

  3. Seattle University held a “Transgender Awareness Week” that had a session on transgender Bible heroes and “Criss-Cross Day,” where students were encouraged to “come dressed for the day in your best gender-bending outfit.”
It makes my blood pressure rise. College campuses are “ground zero” in the culture war. That is why you and I cannot allow impurity to reign because of our silent omission. Students, parents, and alumni must voice their objection.
