1.  Understand the Problem

Based on twenty years of exhaustive research, John Horvat II traces the source of our economic problems to a restless spirit of intemperance that throws our economy out of balance. He identifies a frenetic drive found in certain economic sectors that seek to rid themselves of restraint.

The result: “frenetic intemperance,” which is pushing the nation towards economic collapse.

2.  Discover the Solution

By applying the timeless principles of an organic socio-economic Christian order, we can produce an economy that is wonderfully adapted to our human nature and full of exuberant vitality, but also tempered by the calming influence of those natural regulating institutions such as custom, family, community, the Christian State and the Church.

Horvat’s original insights into both the present crisis and remedies for the future thrust Return to Order into the center of the debate over how to restore America to prominence.

Early Praise for Return to Order

The central theme of frenetic intemperance is original, interesting, and compelling. The diagnosis of contemporary social maladies must focus on moral failings, and Return to Order rightly does so. Its insightful thesis deserves wide circulation and consideration.

-- Kevin E. Schmiesing, PhD
Research Fellow at Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty
Book Review Editor for the Journal of Markets & Morality

Like the true cultural conservative he is, John Horvat takes on the idols of technological, economic, and political power. These powers exacerbate the human tendency toward frenetic intemperance. Return to Order demonstrates that we must be ever vigilant about the institutions we create lest they lose their moral compass.

-- Richard Stivers
Emeritus Professor of Sociology
Illinois State University

An ambitious book that calls for a major shift in the attitudes of those of us who live in a fast-paced world. Horvat calls for an order that combines the virtues of tested traditions with the creative potential of the free economy: a combination of a structured order based on traditional values and the spontaneous order of economic systems based on private property. He uses the term “frenetic intemperance” to describe the type of life which does not leave room for family, creative leisure, and prayer. A call for more balance in our economies and our lives.

-- Dr. Alejandro Chafuen
President of the Atlas Economic Research Foundation

Poetically written, John Horvat II’s Return to Order elevates the argument about what is truly important. It’s rare that a book of this depth is also such a pleasure to read. Mr. Horvat’s critique of contemporary America’s “frenetic intemperance” rings true, laying bare modern man’s confusion and anomie amid plenty. An erudite cultural sculptor, Mr. Horvat chisels away materialism’s false promises and points toward God as the source of the higher revelation that makes beauty, heroism, nobility, sacrifice and true vocation discoverable and meaningful.

How 'Gay Straight Alliance' clubs mar identity of Catholic Colleges

Catholic colleges with these clubs are listed here

After meticulous examination, TFP Student Action volunteers found pro-homosexual student clubs at 111 Catholic institutions of higher learning.  Of the 211 Catholic universities and colleges listed by Ganley’s Catholic Schools in America, 52 percent appear to sponsor organizations which undermine Catholic morality.

From 2009 to 2012, the number of pro-homosexual clubs operating on Catholic campuses has risen by 7 percent. Research conducted in 2009 found clubs at 45 percent of Catholic colleges.

Many of these clubs act as platforms of dissent.  They sponsor sinful events and promote ideas that advance the homosexual movement’s most radical agenda:  same-sex “marriage,” the acceptance of immoral lifestyles, gender confusion, and the rejection of Catholic teaching.

For example:

  • The Queer Straight Alliance club at the College of St. Scholastica held a “Vote No” rally against God-ordered marriage in Minnesota.  In addition, 192 faculty and staff members attacked the marriage amendment in a public statement.
  • America’s oldest Catholic university, Georgetown, promoted a month-long schedule of pro-homosexual activities in October.  The various “Coming Out” events included a public “kiss-in” (same-sex kissing).
  • The number of “lavender graduations” on Catholic campuses have been increasing.  These “graduations” treat sinful lifestyles as something special.
Please oppose these scandals by signing a peaceful protest here

“These clubs are aggressively pushing to mainstream sin, to pretend sin is something special,” said TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie.  “Never mind academic achievement.  Vice is being celebrated now, not virtue.”

“At the heart of so many famous Catholic universities, a real dictatorship of ‘tolerance’ is sidelining the truth, throwing 2,000 years of Catholic teaching right out the window,” he continued.  “More and more students are confronted with visible, active and well-funded pro-homosexual clubs that openly contradict natural law and undermine good moral values.”

“As the culture war intensifies, it’s vital to stop the sexual revolution from misleading more souls,” Ritchie remarked.  “What will happen if non-negotiable moral values continue to be surrendered to the culture of death on Catholic campuses?  Without moral values, what’s the difference between Berkeley and Georgetown?  Like Our Lord asked:  What is salt worth if it has lost its savor?”

Over 24,000 students and concerned parents have already signed a protest petition drafted by TFP Student Action, urging Catholic university presidents to disband pro-homosexual clubs within their institutions.  The goal of the petition is to also encourage students to stand strong on moral values and fight the trend of indifference and inaction.  Everyone is invited to sign the petition.

TFP Student Action has no intention to defame or disparage anyone with this campaign. We do not harbor personal hatred against any individual. By intellectually opposing individuals or organizations promoting the homosexual agenda, our only intent is to defend marriage, the family, Catholic education, and the precious remnants of Christian civilization in society.

In his address to Catholic educators at the Catholic University of America in April 2008, Pope Benedict XVI said:

“Teachers and administrators, whether in universities or schools, have the duty and privilege to ensure that students receive instruction in Catholic doctrine and practice. This requires that public witness to the way of Christ, as found in the Gospel and upheld by the Church's Magisterium, shapes all aspects of an institution's life, both inside and outside the classroom. Divergence from this vision weakens Catholic identity and, far from advancing freedom, inevitably leads to confusion, whether moral, intellectual or spiritual.”

TFP Student Action hopes to collect 50,000 petitions before Christmas.

Georgetown Suspends Student for Refusing LGBT Training

Here's a troubling development at Georgetown University, courtesy of Kira Davis at Conservative Daily News. Georgetown University participates in a program called the Community Scholars Program which provides scholarships to GU for disadvantaged youth from across the country. The students attend a 5-week summer intensive on campus to prepare for fall courses. One workshop they were required to attend was an LGBTQ (when did the Q get on there? Seriously folks, are you going to use the whole alphabet?) “sensitivity training.” Jarrett Roby from Chicago, IL was one of the lucky attendees, but when he was told he had to attend the training or risk disciplinary action Roby chose his religious convictions over program policy and refused to attend. A debate ensued and Roby (young and black and yes, that may be unfortunately relevant here) was accused of making the residential assistants feel “physically threatened”. Here is the story in Roby’s own words and you can find more information and exclusive coverage at kiradavis.net.
I’m just greatly saddened about the situation. Officially, the program directors will say I was dismissed from the program because I left 3 of the RAs feeling physically threatened. However I never mentioned anything remotely violent or did anything violent. Also I am confident that all of my peers would support the fact that I have never showed an ounce of violence and any such claims are flawed. The directors of the program who dismissed me said that their reasoning may not be fair, but they were not going to ask for a general consensus of me. Considering this, I believe I was asked to leave the program because I took a conservative stand against a liberal ideology and liberal group of people who are in charge of the program. Every scholar apart of the program was signed up for an LGBTQ seminar for Monday (July 23). I decided this was a seminar I would not attend. I am a devout Christian so I have no animosity in my heart toward any man whether he is gay or straight. I am required to love all people and I try my best to do so. I have no problems with homosexuals because it is the natural and God given right to be with whom they want to be with (Freewill). I do not support Gay rights, but as a supporter of the US constitution I do tolerate them. Because I have an established view point on LGBTQ I did not think it was necessary for me to go to the seminar. I approached a RA privately with my appeal on Sunday and it was automatically shut down and I was told I could expect to be written up if I did not go to the seminar. I held my peace and persisted with the idea of not going. Later that night other students got wind that I was not planning on going to the seminar. I was automatically attacked and deemed “closed-minded” and “ignorant”. In the mist of this rising confrontation I began to speak up to try and explain to other scholars how I was not trying to be intolerant. During this discussion the same three RAs that decided that they felt physically threaten tried to stop the conversation and send everyone to their rooms before the established curfew. I once again spoke up in protest of the early curfew and with an appeal that everyone calms down and back off. As the intensity died down it was clear that the RAs had personal biases toward LGBTQ and were against anyone who spoke against it. I heard the RAs say negative things about me but I didn’t respond because once everything died down it was curfew and I did not want to turn a political debate into and emotional onslaught. The next day I was called in by the program directors and told my actions during the informal debate had reassured the RAs feeling of being threatened. I was told that there had been a meeting with the RA’s and it was decided that I could not stay because 3 RAs were scared for the safety. I believe a true injustice was done to me. I am not looking for revenge, but I am trying to help stop injustice.

To stop abortion: March for Life in Reading - 2012

Hundreds of pro-lifers spent their Sunday afternoon on May 20 attending the second annual March for Life in Reading, Pennsylvania.  The TFP Holy Choir of Angels Band provided rousing patriotic music for the two-mile trek as marchers made their way through the streets of Reading to their final destination, Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Before the march even hit the pavement, several speakers exhorted those gathered to fight abortion as well as the HHS contraception mandate that especially targets Catholic individuals and institutions.

The sending forth speech was given by Fr. Paul Rothemel who gave his blessing. During this final address, a group of children gathered around the podium to take up crosses representing the millions of surgical abortions performed in America since Roe v. Wade.

The march passed by the Planned Parenthood center where some of those millions of abortions are performed on a regular basis.  It was a symbolic gesture, an act of reparation for the innocent lives lost to the horrors of abortion and the nihilistic culture from which it was spawned.  May Our Lady present our prayer before the throne of God and hasten the day when abortion will finally be made unthinkable in America.

VIDEO: Attacked by "Tolerance"

VIDEO: Attacked by "Tolerance

"Just look at the French Revolution of 1789. Back then, the unruly mob screamed 'equality' as they broke the rule of law and committed all sorts of atrocities," said TFP spokesman John Ritchie. "And today, you find people chanting 'equality' as they attack peaceful Americans who affirm the positive, self-evident truth that marriage is between one man and one woman. It's a big eye-opener."

Notre Dame enhances support for gay and lesbian students

The University of Notre Dame seems to be willing to bend to the homosexual movement's demands for more "inclusion" and visibility and status on the campus named after the Virgin Mary.

From an April 25 Notre Dame News release:

Rev. Thomas P. Doyle, C.S.C., vice president for student affairs, added: “The University has made significant progress over the past 15 years in its support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and questioning students, but we’ve always emphasized the desire to continuously improve and to be responsive to student concerns. The conversations between students and the administration both recently and over the past several years have been very important.”

The statement says:

• The University has acted upon several recommendations made by students to improve support for gay, lesbian and bisexual students and will explore others. These will include making ally training more widely available, offering education to First-Year Orientation commissioners, expanding the Safe Space initiative, and improving hall staff training.

• Notre Dame will consider ways of making the “Spirit of Inclusion” statement more explicit and effective. The statement is available on line at: http://dulac.nd.edu/spirit-of-inclusion/.

Protest: Gonzaga University to Honor Pro-Abortion Advocate Desmond Tutu

Gonzaga University to Honor Pro-Abortion Advocate Desmond Tutu

Pro-abortionist presented to Catholic students as a “moral icon”

The notorious pro-abortion Anglican cleric, Desmond Tutu, has been invited to deliver a keynote address at Gonzaga University’s Senior Commencement ceremony on May 13.

Please sign your respectful protest here
Gonzaga president Thayne McCulloh, who plans to give the anti-life figure an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, shockingly claims that “He is certainly among the most prominent moral icons of our time.” (see link)

The decision, however, has upset Catholic students and alumni.  After all, Tutu has consistently opposed the perennial moral teachings of the Catholic Church, particularly regarding the right to life.  As a supporter of abortion, same-sex “marriage,” and socialist policies, Tutu is clearly not qualified to speak at a Catholic university, much less receive honors and accolades.

His continued support for abortion alone is enough to cause grave scandal. In fact, according to LifeSiteNews.com, he supports Marie Stopes International, one of the world’s largest abortion providers.  Laws that protect the unborn, he said, are “immoral” in some cases.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ 2004 directive, states: “Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles” or give “awards, honors or platforms” to such individuals.

Will Gonzaga University reverse its poor decision and disinvite Tutu, or will it throw its Catholic identity out the window in exchange for a fleeting moment of political correctness?

Catholic university cuts contraception coverage

CINCINATTI, Ohio, April 5, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Xavier University, a Catholic University in Cincinnati, announced Monday that it was abolishing coverage for contraception and sterilization in its health care policy, prompting an outcry from some members of the school’s faculty.

The change, which was announced in a letter from the school’s President, Fr. Michael Graham, will go into effect on July 1, 2012. According to Fr. Graham, the controversy over the HHS mandate requiring Catholic institutions to provide coverage for contraception, abortifacient drugs, and sterilization prompted him to re-examine the school’s healthcare policy. The mandate is set to go into effect in August of 2013.

“As a Catholic priest and as a president of a Catholic University, I have concluded that, absent a legal mandate, it is inconsistent for a Catholic institution to cover those drugs and procedures the Church opposes,” Fr. Graham wrote. However, he noted, coverage would still be provided “in cases of medical necessity, for non-contraceptive purposes.”

Fr. Graham added that “from the Church’s perspective,” Obama’s proposed “accommodation,” which purports to have the insurance companies rather than the employer foot the bill for contraceptive coverage, was “insufficient for a number of reasons.”

Fr. Michael Crosby: Catholics Protest Dissident Priest at Madonna University

On Wednesday, March 7, 2012 TFP Student Action joined a group of faithful Catholics, including alumni and former benefactors of Madonna University, in a prayerful protest of the leadership of the Felician Sisters over their selection of Fr. Michael Crosby, OFM Cap. to lead a weeklong retreat for the sisters residing in Livonia, Michigan.1

Fr. Crosby is well known as an outspoken advocate of a host of positions at odds with the Catholic doctrine, particularly in the areas of priestly celibacy,2 homosexuality,3 and the hierarchical nature of the Catholic Church.

Lining the public street adjoining the entrance to the university, local Catholics recited the rosary, sung hymns and braved high winds while displaying signs that read:  “God’s Marriage = 1 Man + 1 Woman.” “Fidelity: Yes -- Dissent: No,” “Fr. Crosby is a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” and “Restore Madonna’s Catholic Identity.”

March for Life Draws Multitude of Pro-Life Youth

March for Life Draws Multitude of Pro-Life Youth

Once again, the march served to show that Americans oppose the sin of abortion. In opposition to the several hundred thousand pro-lifers, there were a scant handful of “pro-choice” activists (read anti-life). In spite of rain and frigid temperatures, approximately 350,000 people converged on Washington to pray and fight for the end of abortion.

Abortion Advocacy Groups at 6 Catholic Universities

PROTEST NOW

According to the Catholic Boston College web site:

“The Students for Reproductive Justice (LSRJ) at Boston College Law School promotes discussion, education, and advocacy on issues of reproductive freedom. LSRJ works on reproductive health and choice issues such as global family planning, comprehensive sex education, contraceptive equity and birth control options, safe, legal and accessible abortion…”

Analogous pro-abortion groups can be found at other Catholic universities, including DePaul University, Fordham University, Georgetown University, Santa Clara University and Seattle University.

The term “reproductive justice” is itself a mockery of justice, for it seeks not to respect, but to abolish true justice. Real justice bestows upon all the right to life, which abortion denies and tramples. The promotion of “contraception” and “choice issues” simply contribute to the total abolition of respect for innocent human life.

Also troubling is the “global family planning” agenda, the tragic results of which are playing out in China, where more than 13 million abortions – and many forced abortions – take place each year.

More than just advocating abortion on a remote web site, Students for Reproductive Justice actively promote the culture of death. Law students at Fordham, for instance, take part in “an ongoing escort program in partnership with Planned Parenthood.” Other activities include: “a research partnership with local pro-choice legal organizations,” and “brownbags with reproductive rights activists.” At DePaul University in Chicago, Law Students for Reproductive Justice are recognized as an official student organization with a professorial advisor.

It seems almost incomprehensible that such things, so blatantly against the law of God and nature, could be tolerated in any Catholic setting.

Why are these pro-abortion groups given free reign on these Catholic campuses? How much funding do they receive to promote abortion under the false pretense of “justice”?

Please support the timeless teachings of the Church, and the restoration of Catholic education. The abortion elephant in the Catholic classroom must be expelled.

Help TFP Student Action collect 20,000 peaceful protest petitions in 20 days.
